Identify Strategy

Do you and your board want your organization to be more strategic, sustainable and/or innovative? The first and most critical leadership responsibility is setting a shared vision for your organization and developing the strategy to get there. Our experienced strategic consultants bring specialized training and skills to strategic planning, alliances and strategic restructuring, such as mergers; succession planning and sustainability projects. We will partner with you to design and complete the right strategic process to meet your organization’s needs.

MAP strategic consultants work individually and in teams, with organization participation, to:

  • Identify your organization’s key role related to community impact; and then revitalize with goals and strategies
  • Develop key strategies in the context of your competitive environment (Real Time Strategic Planning) and create strategic decision frameworks from which your organization will evaluate future opportunities
  • Review your organization’s work and programs from the vantage points of your dual bottom line (mission and money) and make changes to increase organizational sustainability
  • Explore and pursue strategic alignments, like shared service arrangements, joint ventures, acquisitions and mergers
  • Design and facilitate collective action to achieve greater impact  related to shared goals

Our strategic consultants are familiar with many planning models, but can “throw out the road map” if a particular organization’s needs require a new process. Your strategic development work can take two months or a year, can involve hundreds of stakeholders or a small core group. Call us to discuss your interests and needs. We look forward to connecting. 651-393-2178; info@MAPforNonprofits.org

Strategic Planning

Mission – Money Analysis & Recommendations

Completing a Mission-Money analysis will help you, your board of directors and involved staff members to visualize, compare and contrast the contribution each of your revenue-generating activities is making to your mission and your financial bottom line, and will help you to determine the next steps needed to increase the impact and sustainability of your organization. Our process is derived from the book Nonprofit Sustainability: Making Strategic Decisions for Financial Viability by Jeanne Bell, Jan Masaoka and Steve  Zimmerman. Fees for this process range from $2,200-$3,000. This service can also be integrated into our strategic planning or business planning.

Strategic Alliances and Restructuring, including Nonprofit Mergers

An increasing number of nonprofit executives and board leaders are exploring opportunities to align their nonprofit organizations with others to achieve greater impact, improve the quality or reach of programs, create economies of scale, preserve important programs, and to strengthen financial performance and sustainability. MAP consultants have completed more than 100 alliances involving more than 200 organizations (joint ventures, program transfers, shared service agreements, acquisitions and mergers.) We bring research, experience and proven processes to serve the best interests of your organization and your community. The consultants facilitate the exploration process. They work with partners who have already found one another, and they help others to identify potential partners. They:

  • Create an environment for organizations to consider their options and opportunities
  • Provide alliances and strategic restructuring expertise, resources and support
  • Bring neutral third-party perspective and facilitation throughout the process, which may include exploration, implementation and post-integration assistance

Ceasing Operations – Emergency Transition Service

We also assist organization boards with the process of ceasing operations and performing emergency shutdowns. MAP’s Emergency Transition service helps boards of directors access information and make informed decisions about public resources and community services; and complete essential dissolution obligations on a timely basis.
