Start a Nonprofit

services_startnonprofitEvery week we hear from individuals interested in starting a Minnesota-based nonprofit organization. “I want to do it right,” they say. If that’s you, then you will be interested in connecting to MAP services.

Expert Guidance

Phil Duran, MAP attorney, will guide and accompany you through the necessary legal steps to start your nonprofit organization. Phil provides expert advice, legal documents, application forms, assistance, explanations and answers to questions.

Choose the Start a Nonprofit package that’s right for your organization

The main difference between the two service offerings is the IRS form that is required for your situation, and the amount of legal guidance and support provided by MAP. Don’t worry if you’re unsure of which service package is right. We will advise once we know more about your new nonprofit organization.

Was Your Status Revoked?

Has your organization’s tax-exempt status been revoked? If so, we can help you to re-apply. Most tax-exempt organizations other than churches and certain church-related organizations are required to file an annual information return or notice with the IRS. Organizations that do not file for three consecutive years automatically lose their tax-exempt status. The revocation is automatic and, unless the error was made on the IRS’s part, the organization has to re-apply.

We provide the needed legal assistance, to prepare and submit the reapplication and the request for retroactive reinstatement, if the organization is eligible, as well as accounting assistance, if needed, to prepare the required and missing tax forms.

Confused?

Don’t worry. It costs nothing to discuss your needs with MAP. We will help you to determine which IRS form is right for your organization. In general, you are eligible to use the 1023 EZ application if your new nonprofit will be a 501(c)(3) and your organization has not averaged more than $50,000 per year in total gross proceeds for a period of three years and is not expected to average more than $50,000 per year for a period of three years.
